The Three COPs on Biodiversity, Climate, and Desertification: Agriculture on the front line of interconnected challenges.
In 2024, the three United Nations COPs (Conferences of the Parties) will take place within a month of each other between now and the end of the year. On this occasion, it is urgent to recall the central role of sustainable agriculture.
Biodiversity, climate and the fight against desertification are intimately linked, but are often addressed in isolation. However, experience shows that agricultural solutions can both curb deforestation and restore soils while improving the living conditions of the most vulnerable populations. In this opinion column, Agrisud highlights the need to reorient agricultural systems towards sustainable practices, particularly in Africa, Asia and the Caribbean, in order to meet these global challenges.
