On Saturday December 14, 2024, the city of Diembéring, Senegal, hosted a landmark event: the official signing of the decentralized cooperation agreement with the city of Libourne, France. The signing formalizes their partnership and officially launches the implementation of actions planned within the framework of this cooperation, operationalized by Agrisud International.

A partnership committed to shared sustainable development

This agreement is part of an ambitious approach to cooperation between the two communities, focusing on crucial issues such as sustainable food, preservation of natural resources and local capacity building.

The mayor of Libourne, Philippe Buisson, underlines the importance of this commitment :

«This partnership bears witness to our determination to act locally while responding to the global challenges of our time. For a medium-sized town like ours, this cooperation with Diembering represents a unique opportunity to build concrete, mutually supportive actions and to enhance the specific features of our territories.»

For his part, the mayor of Diembéring emphasizes the positive impact expected from this collaboration :

« This collaboration will strengthen agricultural activities, whether in market gardening, food production or livestock breeding, while supporting the artisanal fishing sector. We also aim to develop local distribution channels, notably to supply school canteens, and to raise awareness of sustainable practices such as resource management, biodiversity preservation and healthy nutrition. »

Continuity in commitment

The signing marks a key milestone, following on from the July 10, 2024 event in Libourne, where the foundations of this partnership were presented and celebrated. With the support of Agrisud International, the two communities are now committed to implementing concrete actions, while strengthening the bonds of solidarity between their populations.

Present at the signing ceremony, Joël Lebreton, President of Agrisud International, emphasized the key role played by the NGO in implementing this cooperation :

« Agrisud is proud to be both witness to and facilitator of this decentralized cooperation between Diembéring and Libourne. With over fifteen years' experience in Casamance, we are convinced that this partnership will make a significant contribution to the sustainable development of both territories. »
